Johnston County multi-car crash injures two people

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.

The wreck happened on NC-42 near the I-40 interchange.

Authorities confirmed three vehicles were involved and that speed and alcohol were both factors in the accident.

Police said 28-year-old Jason Turlington ran a red light while heading eastbound on NC-42 and struck a 17-year-old female driver, who was turning left from the I-40 off ramp onto NC-42. Turlington then hit 26-year-old Patricia McGee, who had stopped for the red light in the westbound direction.

An eyewitness on the scene told ABC11 that extreme force was used to free two people who were pinned inside their cars.

Police said Turlington was not wearing a seat belt, received serious injuries, and was transported to WakeMed. He was cited for a DWI, reckless driving, and not wearing a seat belt.

The 17-year-old driver was also transported to WakeMed with minor injuries. Police said Turlington hit her driver's side door.
