Mysterious containers triggered an alert for hazmat crews to rush to a Raleigh gas station Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the containers were left at gas pumps at the Sheetz on Capital Boulevard at Thornton Road.

It was hard to tell exactly what they are. When members of Raleigh's Hazmat Team picked up the items, they looked like small bottles or vials.

Three hours after police were called, experts at the scene announced that the items were "unopened medical supplies" that were not hazardous.

A number of Sheetz customers were ordered to stay inside the store or in their cars in the parking lot until the all clear was sounded.

Police say employees of the Sheetz did the right thing by calling 911 and deciding it was better to be safe than sorry.
