50,000 gallons lost in water main break

CHAPEL HILL

It happened around 1:30 a.m. on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. north -- approximately a block away from Franklin Street. According to officials, 50,000 gallons of wate were lost.

Water was pouring from the pavement in several places. Several people in the area had to move their cars and water also threatened to flood several apartments down a hill.

Around 5:30 a.m., work crews with OWASA were having trouble with ice forming on the roadways.

One lane in each direction was opened before the morning rush hour. No word on when all of the repairs will be made.
