Steven Johnson, 23, is charged with seven felonies related to exploitation of the elderly.
Investigators claim he went into seven Smithfield businesses last year with his grandmother to open credit card accounts in her name. Then they allege he ran up $27,000 in bills that included jewelry, clothing and electronics.
