Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of South Miami Boulevard and Laurel Drive.
Officials say an officer in his cruiser was traveling eastbound on South Miami Boulevard when a 1993 Mercury Cougar vehicle pulled out into the travel lane from Laurel Drive attempting to make a left turn onto South Miami Boulevard. That's when the two vehicles collided.
Four of the five male occupants inside the Mercury were transported to Duke Hospital with injuries. One of the injured individual remains in serious critical condition and the others received minor injuries from the accident.
The name of the officer and all the individuals involved in the accident are not being released at this time, pending further investigation.
Both vehicles involved in the traffic accident were totaled and it appears that alcohol was a factor for the driver of the Mercury vehicle.
