Man charged with rape, robbery

CUMBERLAND COUNTY Ronald Wayne Locklear, Jr., 26, was arrested shortly after his crime spree began around 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say Locklear held-up the Short Stop at Dunn and Baywood Roads by demanding the employee empty the cash register drawer.

He then raped the employee and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a gold colored Pontiac Grand Am.

Locklear robbed a second convenience store located on Grove Street. He was arrested by Fayetteville Police after crashing his car along School Street while attempting to elude law enforcement officers.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies have charged Locklear with second degree rape, second degree forcible sexual offense, first degree kidnapping and common law robbery.

He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond on those charges.

Fayetteville Police have also filed a host of charges against Locklear for crimes he allegedly committed in the city. That bond was set at $77,000.

Total bond for Locklear is now set at $137,000, secured. He is expected to make a first court appearance on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the County Detention Center Courtroom.
