Trooper, vehicles attacked with hammer

DUNN The incident occured after a driver rear-ended Romeo Ribeiro's car on I-95 near a Dunn exit around midnight.

According to police, Ribeiro got out of his car and started to leave the scene on foot. But when EMS and police arrived, Ribeiro attacked the two officials' vehicles with a claw hammer and attempted to harm the trooper.

Authorities charged Ribeiro with assaulting a government official, hit-and-run and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

He was being held in the Harnett County Jail under a $3,000 bond.
