Help choose Durham's next superintendent

DURHAM

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education is asking for the public's input in choosing a permanent superintendent.

The Board has begun its national search and hopes to have someone in place no later than July 1.

Parents and community members are encouraged to complete a survey regarding what attributes they would like to see in the new superintendent.

Surveys can be filled out online at www.dpsnc.net. From the home page, click the superintendent search link.

If you prefer a hard copy, printed copies of the survey are available in all Durham public school offices and at all branches of the Durham County Public Library. Or you may call 919-560-3652 and a survey will be mailed to you. The surveys must be returned by January 21.

The Board unanimously appointed H. Hank Hurd as interim superintendent in November. He replaced Dr. Carl E. Harris, who resigned in November.

Harris accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Education as deputy assistant secretary of Education for Policy and Strategic Initiatives.
