The NC Department of Crime Control & Public Safety said Wednesday that the Department of Revenue building, at 501 North Wilmington Street, was evacuated Wednesday morning because of a suspicious package.

The Raleigh Police bomb squad was called in around 9:40 a.m. to analyze the package.

Experts said the package was harmless and workers were allowed to return to their offices.

The box was apparently intended to cause a scare because it was taped up with nuts and bolts inside like a bomb. However, there was no explosive.

The investigation continues.
