Bettis was the last witness in a day-long trial. He faced charges of assault on a female and disorderly conduct from an incident that happened earlier this summer.
The woman claimed Bettis touched her at the Twin Rivers YMCA during a dispute at the pool. However, five witnesses say they never say the Mayor assault the woman.
Bettis has served as mayor of New Bern since 2009.
