Mother shoots dog after attack

DURHAM Tasheka Beatty says the dog bit her 2-year-old daughter's face and then went after her child's father.

Beatty says she shot at the Pitbull to prevent it from doing any more harm.

But police have charged her with animal cruelty and discharging a firearm in public.

"It's emotional, because I'm a mother and that was my daughter and I can't help but to be emotional," Beatty said. "I have vivid images in my head that will never be erased."

Officers say she left the injured dog outside in the cold overnight.

She says the Pitbull was left outside, because her calls to Animal Control went unanswered.

However, police say the dog was still alive when they responded to Beatty's 911 call a day after the incident.

The Pitbull had to be put down, because of the severity of its injuries.
