Man who claimed wife shot him charged

WAKE COUNTY John Evans was charged with murder Wednesday afternoon in the death of his 53-year-old wife Donna Evans.

On January 16 around 4 p.m., authorities were called to a home in the 4000 block of Brook Cross Drive after an unidentified woman told an 911 operator that she was in the shower when she heard the shooting and ran to the room where it happened.

In the call, a man believed to be Evans could be heard shouting in the background.

The caller said there were two people wounded in the room.

"He says she shot him," the caller reports.

The caller said the man was shot "in the gut," and the woman is lying face down on the floor.

The woman who made the 911 call has not been identified.

ABC11 has learned John Evans is a chef who owns a catering business in Cary called Chef John's.

He was arrested Wednesday after he was released from WakeMed where he was recovering from gunshot wounds.
