Man arrested in 3-year-old's shooting death

GREENVILLE, N.C. Around 9:30 p.m., Best was arrested at an apartment in the 400 block of Paladin Drive in Greenville.

Authorities say they were able to locate Best after a tip to America's Most Wanted.

Best was wanted in connection with the shooting death of 3-year-old Princess King. She was shot while playing on the playground at her Goldsboro apartment complex on February 27.

Investigators say Best was fighting with someone near the playground when the shooting occurred.

Best was placed in the Wayne County Jail under no bond for murder, attempted first degree murder and three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

He has also been served with several outstanding warrants including, kidnapping, assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault on a female, three counts of communicating threats, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor breaking or entering, injury to real property and harassing phone calls.

At a court appearance Thursday afternoon, Best asked for a court appointed attorney.

King's family was there. Members were heard sobbing as Best was brought into the room.
