Officers say they were called to a home on Magnolia Street just after 8 p.m. and learned 15-year-old Larod McKoy of Pine Acres Drive had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
The teen later died at Central Carolina Hospital.
Detectives say the incident apparently stemmed from an argument two days ago involving two groups of young men that escalated into Tuesday night's shooting.
They said it wasn't yet clear if McKoy was armed, the intended target, or even just an innocent bystander.
No arrests have been made.
