Durham man charged in 11 rooftop burglaries

DURHAM

Durham police arrested 49-year-old James Edward Johnson of Liberty Street Thursday night.

He's charged with 33 felonies including multiple counts of breaking and entering, larceny, and damage to property. Investigators say he stole cash and cigarettes in the following burglaries:

  • July 29 – Discount Mart, 3011 Fayetteville Street
  • August 2 – Buy Quick, 103 West Cornwallis Road
  • August 3 – New Visions of Africa Restaurant, 1306 Fayetteville Street
  • August 6 – Wang’s Garden, 820 Fayetteville Street
  • August 7 – Business/restaurant, 2504 Fayetteville Street
  • August 7 – Roy’s Kountry Kitchen, 2514 Fayetteville Street
  • August 8 – Buy Quick, 1603 South Alston Avenue
  • August 13 - Buy Quick, 1603 South Alston Avenue
  • August 14 – I Clean Cleaners, 3700 Fayetteville Street
  • September 1 – Buy Quick, 103 West Cornwallis Road
  • September 1 – Roy’s Kountry Kitchen, 2514 Fayetteville Street

Police said more charges may be filed.
