Mother accused of severely burning child

HALIFAX COUNTY

The Enfield Police Department says it received a report of suspected child abuse from the Halifax County Department of Social Services on October 3, when an infant arrived at Halifax Regional Medical Center two days earlier with second-degree burns to his body.

The child was immediately airlifted to the UNC Burn Center where it was determined he also had bone fractures in various states of healing.

The child's mother, Tasha Monique Caine, was arrested Thursday after an investigation and charged with one count of felony child abuse. She is currently at the Halifax County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
