A deputy tried to stop William Reaves, 39, for careless and reckless driving on Old Oxford Highway, but officials say Reaves refused to stop.
Reaves led officials on a chase at moderate speed through Craven and Allgood Streets before crashing his vehicle into a tree at Cravin and Martin Streets.
The suspect tried to jump and run, but officials apprehended him after a brief foot chase. He was not injured in the crash.
Reaves faces numerous charges, including felony fleeing to elude.
