The senior leadership of the XVIII Airborne Corps - including Fort Bragg commander Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick - tested the latest generation military parachute Thursday.

The T-11 parachute is a revolutionary change in the way parachutes are designed and has undergone years of testing. The Rangers and other Special Operations Forces have been using it as their primary system for more than two years now.

The parachute features a slower descent, and is expected to save lives and cut down on injuries.

The T-11 replaces the T-10, which was introduced in 1955.

Fort Bragg plans to eventually transition to the new device for all of its parachute units.
