Warrants show the trucker who police said caused the crash has been charged with serious injury by vehicle.
Eyewitness say Charles Caldwell was weaving in traffic and seemed to have slurred speech at the time of Wednesday's accident.
Officers said Caldwell was driving while impaired, but they were waiting for test results to determine what exactly caused his impairment.
The warrant also said Officer Teresa Gilliam suffered two broken ribs, brain injuries and injuries to her spine and back.
At last check, she was in critical condition at Duke Hospital.
