The new laws run the gamut - everything from grease to childcare.
Starting Tuesday, parents using day cares will see new protections.
Day care workers will have to undergo expanded criminal background checks, and anyone with a child abuse or sex offense conviction will be banned from working at day care centers.
On the work front, there is a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Most companies will have to use the federal government's E-Verify system to check if they are eligible to work in the United States.
New laws also mean changes to how restaurants sell their used fryer grease. Owners will see stricter guidelines to stop oil thieves.
Anyone caught with more than $1,000 worth of stolen grease will face a felony charge.
