"This is all about building partnerships and strengthening the city of Fayetteville and individual neighborhoods to make this the safest community in America," said Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock.
With a recent uptick in crime, the new chief brought out the big guns for his first meeting with the public to not only listen to the community, but to teach them how not to become a victim of a crime.
Hundreds turned out for Monday's meeting just to talk about crime, and they armed themselves with knowledge and learned how to help.
"If we prevent, it's a lot cheaper on the community and may save a life," said Medlock.
Many at this meeting are hopeful for what's ahead on the city's horizon.
"I thank God we have law enforcement in this community that cares about its community," said Fayetteville resident Bob Lewis. "I think it's excellent."
Medlock said his top priority is to bring the crime numbers down as soon as possible.
