The area is east of Interstate 40.
Pictures from chopper 11 HD showed the motorcycle lying on its side and a pickup truck with damage to its side stopped nearby.
Troopers said the driver of the pickup turned in front of the Harley Davidson, causing the collision. They identified the driver as 89-year-old Hugh Bailey of Raleigh. Charges were pending.
Officials identified the motorcyclist as 33-year-old William Joseph DeGrace, of Garner.
Troopers said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
