Cisco to cut 4,000 workers worldwide

Cisco systems is cutting jobs despite higher earnings and revenue growth.

The company, which has a big operation in Research Triangle Park, is cutting 4,000 employees or about five percent of its global work force.

CEO John Chambers called the global economy "challenging and inconsistent."

Cisco hasn't said how many workers it will let go in RTP, if any.
