Thieves are targeting cars in part of Fayetteville. One homeowner even caught the thieves on tape.
Images on Jasper Lee's security system are dark and grainy, but he can see two thieves in action, just after 4 a.m. on August 15.
"They got some precious gems, a Craftsman tool set for my 1964 Impala, a jack, and an iPod," said Lee.
Lee says he's one of more than half a dozen residents, in his neighborhood off of Hoke Loop Road, whose cars were broken into on August 15.
"It makes me feel violated, not safe in the neighborhood," said Gwen, a resident.
Gwen said thieves rifled thru her car glove compartment and center arm rest but didn't take anything, just her peace and security.
"The lesson learned is to double, triple lock my doors and put my car in the garage which is what I am doing now," said Gwen.
Lee says the two thieves wore masks, and probably targeted some of the homes. He says his neighborhood has beefed up its community watch, and residents are keeping a close eye on each other.
A police detective is working the investigation, but they need the public's help asking anyone who may know the thieves to call 911.
Meanwhile, a department spokesman says the vehicle break-ins will be a part of the weekly discussion Wednesday on crime, between the police chief, and his commanders.
Fayetteville Police encourage all citizens to secure their vehicles in an effort to prevent break-ins.
