Police say Officer Aaron Hunt was trying to catch up to a motor vehicle violator when Billy Jerome Green walked into the path of the patrol car at the intersection of Murchison Road near Bullock Street
Investigators say Officer Hunt, who has been employed with the Fayetteville Police Department since April 2010, took evasive action but collided with the pedestrian.
Green was immediately transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
