Car crashes into pole, knocks down Raleigh traffic lights

RALEIGH

It started when a car crashed into a utility pole on New Bern Avenue at Peartree Lane and Donald Ross Drive in front of WakeMed Hospital, causing the traffic lights to fall down.

The unidentified driver of the car did not appear to be injured. He was given a field sobriety test and arrested on suspicion of DWI.

Police were directing traffic on New Bern Avenue while crews worked to repair the utility pole and traffic lights. It is unclear when the repairs will be completed.

Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area if possible.
