It happened around 3 a.m. near Red Mill Road.
Authorities said the truck ran off the road and skidded several hundred feet before coming to a rest on the guardrail.
It was unclear what caused the unidentified driver from Virginia to run off the road. They were not injured.
The driver was cited for careless and wreckless driving and failing to maintain lane control.
Traffic along I-85 was impacted for hours as authorities worked to clear the scene.
