It happened south of Chapel Hill along Old Farrington Point Road near the intersection with Wicker Drive around 12:10 p.m.

Troopers say 65-year-old Peter Scott Cartwright, of Durham, was driving his motorcycle when he went off the right side of the road and hit a tree.
Cartwright died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
