Driver in fatal hit-and-run sought in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

They are searching for driver who struck a pedestrian and then drove off around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the railroad crossing at North Street.

Police say 59-year-old Jerry Williams was struck by a motorist who left him for dead in the road. Williams was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police want to know who has the vehicle, and who was driving.

"It's a small vehicle. We don't know the make or model at this time," said Fayetteville Police Lt. Todd Joyce. "We know that it is blue."

Police paint on the pavement marks the spot where officers say Williams was crossing the street when he was struck and critically injured.

Police records list Williams as homeless. Right now, investigators don't know where he was headed, or where he came from when he was hit."

Anyone with information on the car and driver who hit Williams is asked to call Fayetteville police or Crimestoppers.
