Tips pour in for missing Hope Mills teen three weeks after her disappearance

HOPE MILLS, N.C.

Hundreds of tips are pouring in, but there's still no sign of the 15-year-old. Now, nearly half a dozen billboards around the area flash Locklear's picture and missing person's information.

Her disappearance is baffling and frustrating.

From day one of their search for Locklear, authorities have asked for the public's help to find her.

Locklear hasn't been seen or heard from since March 11 when she left her grandfather's home saying she was walking to a friend's home. She never made it.

Her cell phone was tracked to a wooded area near the Fayetteville airport, but she was never found. After weeks of small and large ground searches, there is still no trace of her whereabouts and fate.

Hope Mills Police Chief Joel Acciardo said his officers are following up on 500 tips and leads that from the public - including reported sightings of Locklear from as far away as Mississippi and California.

"Running down leads and tips is part of the natural progression in an investigation like this," said Acciardo.

So far, none of the tips and leads has panned out.

Locklear's family has taken refuge in her grandparents' home. A hand-written sign on the door simply ask for prayers and privacy.

Police continue to ask that anyone with information about Locklear call the Hope Mills Police Department or just dial 911.

The chief said the search will go on as long as it takes.
