Two charged in connection with sweepstakes robberies in Raleigh

Raleigh police have charged two suspects in connection with a pair of armed robberies of sweepstakes parlors.

Police said 22-year-old Tyree McMillan and 21-year-old Kahleel Smith were each charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the crimes.

The charges stem from the robbery of the Paradise Bingo in the 2600-block of South Saunders Street on Dec. 23 and the robbery of the Magic Gold Sweepstakes in the 4000-block of Capital Boulevard on Dec. 31.

At last report, the suspects were being held at the Wake County Detention Center.

Police are investigating to see if McMillan and Smith played a role in several other sweepstakes robberies between Dec. 20 and late January.
