Samsung recalls washing machines after ABC11 report
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Samsung says it's recalling certain top-loading washing machines a year after ABC11's Diane Wilson was the first broadcaster to report they can blow apart.
The new move comes about a month after the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning about the machines.
"Our priority is to reduce any safety risks in the home and to provide our customers with easy and simple choices in response to the recall," said John Herrington, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America in a statement. "We are moving quickly and in partnership with the CPSC to ensure consumers know the options available to them and that any disruption in the home is minimized."
In October 2015, a Holly Springs mom told Diane her 2-month-old Samsung Active Wash blew apart - scattering parts all over her laundry room.
"Any one of us could've been in here," Price said.
These aren't the only cases of problems with some Samsung units made between March 2011 and April 2016.

Samsung said Friday it's giving customers who own the machines two options.
You can get a free in-home repair that includes reinforcement of the washer's top. That includes a free one-year extension of the manufacturer's warranty.
The other option is a rebate to be applied towards the purchase of a new washer from Samsung or other brand washing machine.
