According to the Fayetteville Police Department, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at Cross Creek Mall.
With a little help from the Fayetteville Fire and Emergency Management Department, crews were able to rescue the dog who was allegedly left unattended.
Authorities said even though it was about 86 degrees, temperatures inside of the car were well over 100!
The department posted about the incident on their Facebook page to remind pet owners that it's not safe or legal to leave pets unattended in cars even if a window is slightly cracked.
The dog was evaluated on scene and was determined to be in good condition.
Nellie A. Locklear,35, is being charged with animal cruelty.
