When officers arrived they found 52-year-old James Lloyd King beaten and transported him to WakeMed.
King died as a result of his injuries Thursday afternoon.
A suspect in the case, 33-year-old Andrew Ryan Grainger was taken into custody without incident after police found King. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and transported to the Wake County Jail.
Following King's death Grainger was also charged with murder.
Police say King and Grainger were acquainted with one another.
