Father learns details about son's bar attack

RALEIGH

Charles Poll, 25, of Raleigh is charged with beating 23-year-old Evan Lawrence outside the Jackpot bar on September 30. Lawrence remains in critical condition.

Lawrence's father, Ben Lawrence, says his son was slammed to the ground during the attack.

"According to what I've heard, my son was picked up and slammed on his head on the concrete!" he exclaimed.

Ben Lawrence says he's grateful for the help someone provided the police after hearing what happened to Evan.

According to police, an argument erupted after Evan flicked a cigarette that hit a man on his leg.

Police say a tip led them to Poll, who is charged with assault causing serious bodily injury. Poll is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Ben Lawrence says he wants justice for his son.

"I don't want to hurt the guy, but I want him to answer and be accountable for his actions," Lawrence told ABC11 Eyewitness News. "It wasn't just, they were drinking and words were exchanged. The guy slammed my boy on his head!"
