Blown transformer causes power outage

(04/03/11) -- Some people were in the middle of eating their dinner when the lights went out in one of Genesee County's most popular business districts Sunday. A Consumers Energy spokesman says 1,400 customers lost power in Flint and Flint Township, causing a power outage along Miller Road.

The outage, which was caused by a blown transformer, caused traffic signals to stop working and restaurants to suddenly go dark.

The outage was caused by what's called a blown "cut out."

The power has been restored.
