According to WTSB radio in Smithfield, an anonymous tip led authorities to a home on Jackson-King Road. When deputies arrived, they say 30 people ran into a wooded area.
Officers arrested three men; 45-year-old Robert Cottle, of Raleigh; 31-year-old Arnulfo Garcia of Wendell; and 25-year-old Hugo Zuniga of Willow Spring. They were charged with cockfighting and conspiracy.
The sheriff's office says additional charges are pending.
Deputies also seized 14 parked cars at the home, 138 live chickens and 13 dead chickens, in addition to paraphernalia used for cockfighting.
