Man charged with $50,000 in damages

RALEIGH

Police said the suspect, who was caught on camera during the predawn hours of September 28, destroyed planters in the 200, 300 and 400 blocks, by tipping them off the stands where they were mounted.

Investigators said 10 planters were damaged, and each will cost about $5,000 to replace.

On Tuesday, Raleigh Police Department Downtown District officers charged 29-year-old Omar Rhasheen Simmons with one count of injury to real property in connection with the damage.

Simmons was taken the Wake County Jail without incident.
