Durham police investigate fatal shooting on Liberty Street

DURHAM

Police say 28-year-old Alfredo D. Jobel was found lying on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of Liberty Street around 1:35 p.m. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the shooting happened right in front of the victim's home.

ABC11 spoke with an eyewitness who was walking with his friends when the shots were fired. He says it was a drive-by shooting.

"This was not pretty. And for me to see this...me and my three friends...we were shaken. I'm speechless right now. Somebody just started shooting. I'm thinking its firecrackers," said eyewitness Terry Lyons.

Investigators say Jobel had been in a car when the shooting occurred. The car went out of control after the shooting and collided with another vehicle. A mother and her 11-year-old daughter were injured when the cars collided. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released.

One family member told ABC11 Jobel left behind a newborn son.

"It's heartbreaking. I can actually feel their pain right now. I actually do feel their pain. I just don't know what caused this to happen," Lyons said.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
