Lake Wheeler beach closed fourth time

RALEIGH

It's the fourth time this month the lake has been closed. The first time was August 5 and that was followed by closings on August 11 and 18. Each time the County cited increased level of bacteria, including Enterococci and E. coli.

As a result, activities that require your head to go underwater ate prohibited. That includes include kayaking, Sunfish sail boating and wind surfing lessons.

The City of Raleigh prohibits swimming in the lake. However, it will remain open to fishing, water skiing, tubing and other boat rental opportunities.

The area will be reopened for recreation after two consecutive days of bacteria levels that fall below the EPA's established standards.
