It was the regiment's second deployment to Iraq. The 8th Marines deployed in February of 2005 and secured Fallujah ahead of the national elections.
The troops may get a chance to meet the vice president's wife, Jill Biden this week. She is scheduled to visit Camp LeJeune on Wednesday.
It's part of her effort to support military members and their families.
