It happened along Jeffreys Grove School Road around 8:30 a.m.
Police said 46-year-old Luca Melloni's car left the road and hit a tree. Melloni's 10-year-old son was in the car and suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Officials at Jeffreys Grove Elementary School say grief counselors are on hand for students who need them.
