The victim, a 53-year-old male, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Detectives have learned that approximately four black males appearing to be between 16-20 years of age assaulted and attempted to rob the victim while he was walking through the park.
No charges have been filed at this time.
