This week marks the seventh anniversary of the deadly storm, and it is a coincidence that has some feeling anxious for their loved ones.
One church in Apex has become a home away from home for several Hurricane Katrina survivors. They have made a life here, but are worried about the place they used to call home.
"All my family is still in Mississippi," Katrina survivor Shelle Purcell said.
And Purcell's thoughts are still there too. She is keeping a close eye on Isaac, while she worries about her loved ones who are bracing for its impact.
Purcell was forced to move after Hurricane Katrina destroyed homes along the Gulf Coast and Louisiana.
"It has been difficult because my family is very close-knit," Purcell said. "I just tend to pray on that day and thank God for what he brought me and my family through."
Now she is hoping her family will survive yet another storm.
"Just leave us alone, we're in the recovery stage, Mr. Isaac. Peace be still and just let people continue to grow down there in that area," Purcell said.
