In January 2008, Mahato was found dead inside his Durham apartment just blocks from Duke's campus.
According to court documents, Mahato's wallet, I-Pod, and cellphone were found on Lovette when he was arrested.
Earlier this week, Lovette was re-sentenced to a life sentence for killing UNC Student Body President Eve Carson.
Mahato was actually killed before Carson.
