The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said Symiir Issa Speaks was reported missing Sunday night after last been seen in the area of 9545 Bird Watch Lane just before 6 p.m.
He was later found safe by the Fayetteville Police Department.
Details surrounding the incident have not been released, but police said he was taken by a woman driving a dark blue minivan.
The child's father told WSOC-TV that he believed a relative may have taken his son.
