They say the body of 59-year old William Russell Simmons, of Fayetteville, was discovered by a passerby who called 911 for help.
The body was submerged in a ditch along the 500 block of Hughes Road near the Vander community.

Investigators say there was no sign of an assault or struggle.
Simmons' body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Raleigh for autopsy.
